Honors served up to Career & Tech for hosting, supporting Culinary Cornucopia

The 2009 Heart of the Cornucopia Award was presented to Career & Tech's Culinary Arts & Hospitality Technology students and staff at the Albany Marriott on November 8, in honor of their support of and participation in the annual Culinary Cornucopia chefs competition and fund-raising dinner. The events benefit Living Resources Inc., which offers programs and services for individuals with traumatic brain injuries and developmental disabilities.

Chef Cooper and his team won a silver medal, and Chef Rother and his team won a bronze. Meg Bugler's Floral Design students created stunning arrangements for the event.

In the Cornucopia event at Career & Tech, chefs compete not against each other but for points awarded by Amercian Culinary Federation (ACF) judges. They are evaluated for use of product, taste, serving size, sanitation and other criteria.

"Living Resources is a valuable organization for our community, and we couldn't ask for better partners in coordinating the event than Joan Meyer, their director of public affairs, or Dale Miller, chairman of the culinary competition and owner of Dale Miller Restaurant, Albany," said Chef Brucker. "The competition and dinner provide students with an unmatched opportunity to shadow the experts, learn hands-on and participate in a professional event while doing something good for the community."

Career & Tech's Albany campus Culinary Arts program has hosted the Culinary Cornucopia ACF competition for several years. "Career & Tech will be here as competition host and support into the future, for as long as we can be of assistance to Living Resources."
